Teenagers are experiencing one of the most confusing and critical times of their life. This is a time in their life when habits are being formed and important decisions are being made. Just like a building in the preliminary stages of construction, they are creating a foundation on which to place the rest of their lives. Nothing can compare to the value of constructing a foundation stable enough to support your goals and dreams.
This book is designed to deal specifically with issues that virtually all young people will have to face at some time in their lives. The analogy of constructing a foundation of a building is used to parallel the extreme importance of this period of their lives. With every choice that they make they are adding one more brick to the foundation that the rest of their lives will be placed upon. What they become, and who they become depends on what kind of foundation they build.
If they want a great, successful, joyful, stable life later, then they must build a strong foundation now. They are encouraged to think about how each choice they make could affect them not only now but in the future as well. Issues such as drugs, alcohol, peer pressure, choosing friends, relationships, sex, purity, suicide, and goal setting are dealt with and further substantiated by stories of people that Trey has met on his travels.
The Construction Zone puts forth compelling truths that motivate young people to think deeply about the choices they are making. The book gives young people a clear moral compass to follow as they navigate through their formative years. It deals with problems that face teenagers and provides realistic answers. Of all books that young people read, this one in particular should be considered required reading for every student from middle school to college. It is impossible to read this book and not come out a stronger person. From the beginning to the end this book is a must read for young people.
The building analogy used throughout the book is a superb visual to the power that young choices have on adulthood. Every choice equals one more brick, and bricks turn into the foundation that life will be lived on. Build well have a great life. Build carelessly and suffer the consequences. The message is simple yet powerful.
Even though Construction Zone is written to young people, parents should consider it a valuable tool for them as well. Want to know the issues and how to help? Then spend some time in your own copy of the Construction Zone!
Trey has done a great job including real life stories to add validity to help support his critical points. The issues are well researched and substantiated. I would have to say that this book is definitely “well built.”
